United Nation recognizes Indian Prime Minister Modi and French President Macron as distinguished environmentalists by awarding them

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron have been in the headlines a lot lately for the Rafale deal. Both of them had been in the news again on Wednesday when both of these personalities received an exemplary award from the United Nations. PM Modi got felicitated by United Nations on Wednesday with their highest environmental honor ‘ UN Champions of the Earth ‘ award for his dynamic leadership in the International Solar Alliance and his pledged efforts in eliminating single use plastic in India by the year 2022.
Modi shares this award with the French President Emmanuel Macron as they both have been jointly recognized in the Policy Leadership category for their tireless efforts in conquering the International Solar Alliance and pioneering new works for the betterment of the environment. This includes Macron’s work on the Global Pact for the environment. Apart from Modi and Macron, five other personalities and organisations have been felicitated with this award. Cochin International Airport being one of those five other recipients of this prestigious award ‘ UN Champions of the Earth ‘ for their leadership in the use of sustainable energy by being the world’s first ever fully solar powered airport. It has also started on setting up hydroelectric plants and running organic farming within the campus thus contributing a lot to the environment. Many politicians have congratulated PM Modi on receiving this honour saying that this is a proud moment just not only for the Prime Minister but entire India.
